Our Forever Neverland

I'm so excited to announce that I'm starting a new project with some of my photographer friends. In an effort to spend more time on personal work, each week we will collaborate on a blog post of personal photographs from our lives at our new blog: Our Forever Neverland. This is my first submission. Franky decided one morning before I was awake that he needed[...]

Evolution of a hug

Seventy-five percent of the time their affection develops into a wrestling match every time. And about half of the time tears are involved. Thus is the life of brothers.   love, ali

Growing up

I know, I know. It's just another lamentation about the baby who's not a baby anymore. Wah wah, so sad. But it is. It's hard. And easy. And awesome and awful. I miss that sweet little boo boo boy who stayed glued to my lap for the better part of a year. My carefree, laugh at anything, chunky monkey has been replaced by someone very emotionally imbalanced. S[...]

Happy meal toys

Winter got ya down? Yeah, me too. But not these guys. They are all sunshine all of the time. Except for when they're not. But honestly, these guys are easy to please. And the older they get the better they play together. I got a couple of new backdrops for my little home studio and had a friend over this weekend to try it out. When we were done the boys ask[...]

My wild child

You are a gift, my bright eyes, my wild child with a half smile that gives you away every time. You are brave and playful and all around a joy. Especially today. I just loved you a lot today. I mean, I love you every day but lets face it: childhood has it's ups and downs (as does life). The downs being defiance and temper tantrums and EMOOOOOOOTION[...]

Rest Stop

On the way to the ocean last month we made a rest stop in a little town on the East side of California. We let the boys run crazy in this dumpy little field down the street from the gas station. They were SO happy to be out of the car. Their childhood is slipping away silently. And I don't always take the time to savor the little things I will one day miss a[...]

California Christmas 2012

In what I'm sure will be remembered as one of the most brilliant decisions in our families history, Zach's parents rented a beach house and invited all of his siblings and their families to spend the week of Christmas in California. We all had a wonderful time. California is so so so beautiful. It's full of color and texture. Superior in almost every way to [...]

Happy New Year!!

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bit sad to see 2012 come to an end. This has been a really fun year for the Sumsion family. Here's our top 10 of 2012 (in no particular order):   10. Getting our yard finished and our concrete poured. I know, what a yawner. But having a place for the kids to run around and less mud for them to step in has made[...]

I'm going to Mexico and I'm not taking these guys...

Upon publication of this post I will be loading up my friends car to drive to California where we will be embarking on a seven day cruise to Mexico. I'll give you a moment to embrace your jealousy.... anyways, I'll be taking some photos of my boys along on my Iphone so I don't miss them too much. The photo above was taken by the lovely Annie Duckworth of V[...]

New Hair

Hi. It's me. It's 12.30am and I am still awake. Partly because I'm still kind of on a high from my session earlier today. It just went really really well. I took my time and made sure everything was perfect in camera (which makes my job 1,000 times easier in post) and things just flowed. Partly because I was shooting at a location I've shot a whole lot of [...]
